Growing Up in the Business
Coastal Waste & Recycling was founded by CEO, Brendon Pantano, and his partners at Summer Street Capital. As a third-generation descendant of Fredonia Sanitary Services founders Horace and Dennis Pantano, Brendon grew up in the business. Fredonia Sanitary Services, which was a Fredonia, New York based waste hauling company started in the late 1950’s, was sold to Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI) in 1985. As his family stayed part of the business, Brendon had the opportunity to gain valuable experience that led him to understand the full scope of offering exceptional customer service from the time the materials leave your home or place of business, until they are deposited in a safe environment.
Customer Service Focused
The Coastal founders believe strongly, that keeping focused on the people they have the privilege to serve will solidify their position in the industry and separate them from their competitors. Starting a level playing field with facilities and equipment, the true worth of a service organization is in its people.
With decades of valuable experience and a vision to fill a void left in the southeast Florida market, the team began the venture by finding the best talent in the industry. They recruited a team of professional, progressive industry veterans with a shared vision of developing a premier fully integrated regional solid waste and recycling company while keeping their core values at the forefront of everything they do.
Growing the Company
This team wasted no time in building up the company’s credentials. Within a year of commencing operations, Coastal completed their first four acquisitions across the Southeast Florida market. The expertise of the collective group has added growth both through acquisitions, and organically, and the company stands on a strong foundation today. Since the company’s formation in 2017, Coastal has grown to be one of the largest private solid waste and recycling businesses in the Southeast.
Operating in three states, with over 1100 employees, Coastal has built diverse capabilities in hauling and post-collection, while assembling an experienced team focused on a single “Coastal Vision” of customer service and employee engagement.
In the spring of 2023, Coastal partnered with Macquarie Asset Management. This additional investment brought experience in the waste space, a commitment to providing ongoing capital, and specialized support to the Coastal management team, all with a focus on accelerating company growth in Florida as well as into adjacent geographies. This valuable partnership allows for the company to invest in needed waste infrastructure and position Coastal to further expand its waste and recycling services to more communities.
